SELF-DENIAL #IPraise2018
Every year as the Young Peoples and Children's Division (YPD) of the African Methodist Episcopal Churches around the Globe, we celebrate Self Denial. It is mainly for a week, but this year the East Conference extended if for an extra 13 days.
Self Denial is a week of self-introspection as a young person to deny yourself from earthly desires. This is a week where Local, Area or Conference members combine and meet under one roof to speak and share the Good News of God and how He has Blessed their lives. The Self Denial week unites YPD members to be there for each other. We learn so much more from one another in a deeper level. We share our daily activities on social media and show other churches what we get us to as the youth members of our churches.
The 2018 our theme was #IPraise, so from the 7th-@7th May 2018 it was all about praising the Goodness and Mercy of God. We were given a program from the Connectional Level which guided us with daily scriptures that we read and meditated upon them. Remembering why we are celebrating self denial. This premier program was under the coordination of the TREEC 2nd Vice President, Sis Paballo Mofokeng. “A reminder that self denial is not just a celebration but a reminder of who we are, also being a 2nd Vice doesn't revolve around self denial only, you have other things/duties”, she adds.
“Praise is a genuine expression of love, adoration and appreciation shown to God in spite of our circumstances. It is something we practice when things are looking up, as well as getting bad. Psalm 75:1 “We give thanks to you O God, we proclaim how great you are and tell of wonderful things He has done”. Moreover, our hearts are filled with joy as we encourage members of the YPD to join us in praise for this 2018 edition of Self Denial”, from the Connectional YPD Director and President.
